Department of Physics and Astronomy | The University of The flagship campus of the University of Tennessee System and partner in the Tennessee Transfer Pathway. A committee of faculty members makes our final admissions decisions, and we look at a variety of factors that include, among other things, academic preparation and prior research experience. There is no minimum score required. Chemical Physics
Tuition and maintenance fees for each semester will be waived, but GTAs will be required to pay a Programs and Services Fee, a Technology Fee, a Campus Facilities Fee, and a Transportation Fee. A student who enrolls in graduate study with the intention of attaining an advanced degree in physics will have completed an undergraduate major in physics or its equivalent. Elementary Particle Physics
Students learn to perform independent research in thriving areas of physics. The First Student to Receive a Quantum Physics Fellowship We're building an interdisciplinary approach to lead transformative research on quantum materials and devices, information science, and artificial intelligenceincluding a $3M project using AI to model collective phenomena in quantum materials and another project to build a quantum internet testbed. This is a subfield of nuclear physics closely related to high energy physics which experimentally explores the properties of a novel state of matter known as the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) by colliding heavy ions together at very high energy (TeV per nucleon).
