This law covers the prescription insulin drug. The bill requires the owner of any such motor vehicle, trailer, or semi-trailer to provide proof of insurance within 30 days when requested by a law-enforcement officer and provides that failure to do so is punishable as a traffic infraction by a fine of $600 to be paid into the Uninsured Motorists Fund. Put simply, these laws were changed because of a pushback against police stopping people for minor violations such as expired tags or marijuana odor. As another quick example thats a bit more recent, a new law took effect on January 1st, 2021 which states that using a cell phone while driving is now a primary offense in Virginia. Beginning Jan. 1, the minimum insurance coverage required for vehicles in Virginia will increase. The minimum fine for littering in Virginia will double on July 1, going from $250 to $500.
